Asian Women United (AWU) of California

Asian Women United (AWU) of California was founded in 1976 by a group of San Francisco Bay Area Asian American women and received its non-profit organization status in 1981. The organization seeks to explore the many facets of Asian American women’s experiences and varied cultural heritages through publications and video productions.

AWU videos have been broadcast on public television in the U.S. and Canada and screened at film festivals in the U.S. and Asia and have been viewed in college classrooms across the country. AWU publications are available in libraries and bookstores nationwide as well as in Canada and Asia. Both Making Waves: Writings By and About Asian American Women (Beacon Press 1989) and Making More Waves: New Writings By Asian American Women (1997) have been adopted in Asian American and Women’s Studies classes from New York to California.

We are an all volunteer-run nonprofit organization dedicated to creating work for and by Asian American women. Your generous donation will help us further our mission. Thank you for your all support!
