Reloaded Screening at the Athena Film Festival in New York!

Slaying the Dragon: Reloaded has been accepted to the Athena Film Festival in New York City!

The Athena Film Festival runs from February 9th to February 12th, and consists of approximately 30 films. The Festival is a production of the Athena Center for Leadership Studies at Barnard College and Women and Hollywood.

Reloaded will be playing Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at 3PM in Glicker-Milstein Black Box Theater, LL 200 Diana Center, NYC.

Reloaded Screening at NYU

Reloaded will be screening at NYU on Thursday, October 27, 2011!

The post-screening discussion will feature director Elaine Kim; Benjamin Han, Cinema Studies NYU; and Jeff Yang, curator of the current A/P/A Institute exhibition “Marvels & Monsters: Unmasking Asian Images in U.S. Comics, 1942-1986,” and will be moderated by Gayatri Gopinath, director of the A/P/A Studies Program at NYU. The discussion will address new and persisting images of Asians in the popular imaginary as well as some of the complexities of shifting archetypes and their psychological and developmental effects on Asian American youth.

Filmmaker Elaine Kim is the Professor and Head of Asian American Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. She is the recipient of numerous awards, most recently the Association for Asian American Studies Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011. She has also authored and co-authored several publications, most recently Fresh Talk/Daring Gazes: Conversations on Asian American Art.

The 30 minute sequel to Slaying the Dragon (1988) looks at the past 25 years of representation of Asian and Asian American women in U.S. visual media — from blockbuster films and network television to Asian American cinema and YouTube — to explore what’s changed, what’s been recycled, and what we can hope for in the future.
There will also be a panel discussion with the filmmakers after the screening.

 

Slaying the Dragon: Reloaded Screening at Film Festivals

Vancouver Asian Film Festival (Nov 3 – 6, 2011) will feature Slaying the Dragon: Reloaded.  AWU representatives are scheduled to lead a discussion panel.   

 

San Diego Asian Film Festival (Oct 20 – 28, 2011) will feature Slaying the Dragon: Reloaded.  Professor Elaine H Kim will lead discussion after the screening.

Slaying The Dragon:Reloaded 는 우리 UCBerkeley에 Asian American Studies의 교수직을 맡고 계신 Elaine Kim의 작품이다. 헐리우드 영화에 재현된 아시안 아메리칸 여성의 과거와 현재 모습을 다룬 다큐멘터리 영화다. 그녀의 차분하고 따뜻한 나레이션, 다양한 여성 감독들과 관련 학자들의 목소리를 통해 아시안아메리칸 여성들의 이야기를 풀어나간다. 이 영화는 4월에 열릴 서울 여성 국제 영화제에도 출품이 예정되어 있다. 미국내에서 뿐만 아니라 헐리우드에 비춰진 아시안 여배우들의 모습에 만족하지 못했었던 모든이들에게 좋은 귀감이될 것이다.이 작품은, 헐리우드의 첫 아시안 여배우으로 기억되는 Amy Wong을 재조명하는 영화 Anna Amy Wong in Her Own Words (by Yunah Hong) 와 함께 만나 볼 수 있다.
